Annual School Development Report 2015-2016

St. Mary’s Elementary School Council had a very active year.  We met regularly during 2015/2016 to discuss matters of concern to the school and its community. The school development plan was discussed at every meeting to ensure the steps necessary to meet its goals were being carried out.

In the fall of 2015, the school celebrated the Grand Opening of Phase 1 and 2 of its Grounds Development Plan.  With the support of the school community, the Government of NL, the Department of Education, Fairview Investments, the United Way and the Wellness Coalition we were able to install a spider climber, a new basketball court, an Amphitheatre and new benches. The children are really enjoying the new space.

We held our annual Halloween Fair in October. It is a great opportunity to not only raise money, but also to invite children and their families to take part in a fun school activity.

In March we held our biennial school dinner, auction and dance. The event was a resounding success thanks to the help of our many volunteers and the generosity of the community who provided items for the auction.

The School Council was also involved in other school events. We provided support to our sports teams, sponsored Ice Cream Sundays for our students after concerts and our parent members organized Staff Appreciation Week.  All of these events are dependent on the very generous support of St. Mary’s Elementary parent, teacher and community volunteers.

The School Council sponsored a hot dog lunch for the children of the school on Sports Day.  It was a fun day and a lovely way to end the academic year.
